Open Croatian borders will take you
to a land of genuine hospitality and exceptional natural beauty.
'So beautiful and so close at hand…', 'Croatia is an adornment
of the world', 'the Mediterranean as it used to be' are some
of the slogans of the country as a world tourist destination.
By its attitudes, location, culture and many other features
it is both Central-European and Mediterranean…with such a particularly
attractive coastline of 5.835 km and 1185 islands.
A
picture or a photograph, however illustrative of the immense
beauty, can never replace the live experience… of several days
or a week, no matter, you will savour your stay forever. The
blueness of the sea, the dark green cover of the land and the
sun-shone sky from early dawn until late in the day (and what
a sunset!!), rhythmically alternated with pleasantly mild nights,
will make the end of your holidays come unnoticed…not realizing
that you will have to wait for one whole year to enjoy the rest
and the carefree holidays again.
The
southernmost Dubrovnik-Neretva County is the most picturesque
of Croatian regions, its capital Dubrovnik an outstanding center
and the treasure of world heritage. Its renaissance and baroque
harmony and the state of preservation of the entire city, nonetheless
the life in it, enchant every visitor. To visit Croatia, and
not to visit Dubrovnik, would be a real miss. Here is how a
poet sees it ; '…if this world had several Dubrovniks, only
one of them would be real - the genuine, true, only Dubrovnik
created of stone and light… the palm open under the stars, offered
to the world, the unique stage on which both the past and the
future have one common meaning, a common creative power..'.
Bernard Shaw found Dubrovnik was 'the paradise on earth'. The
famous Summer Festival using the unique open-air stages, the
main street so often qualified as the most beautiful street
in the world, the protection of its patron saint St.Blaise that
has guarded the city for over a thousand years….the historic
flag inscribed LI-BER-TAS (freedom) waving atop the Orlando's
statue… the Rector's Palace, several medieval monasteries, the
Sponza Palace, the two Onofrio's fountains…the seven Elaphite
islands right at hand…including Lopud, the most splendid among
them. A horseshoe shaped cove gives to the open sea with the
outlines of another beauty, the island of Mljet in the distance,
while the fertile green slopes abound with rich Mediterranean
vegetation of absorbing aroma and scent.
Harmoniously inserted in the landscape
by the medieval Franciscan Monastery at the western end of the
bay, stands a villa made of stone - The Villa Vilina, the Šimunović-Vilina
family hotel opened in the summer of 2002. with three suites
and fourteen rooms and with the bay and the sandy beach right
at hand from a beautiful large terrace in front. Only 9.00 Nm
from Dubrovnik bridged by four daily boat lines, the hotel has
been refurbished with care and set to meet any demand by a most
choosy tenant. The atmosphere is hardly of a classical hotel,
because in Villa Vilina each client is surrounded by personal
care of the members of the family. The historic building is
carefully equipped with latest technologies, each room with
satellite TV, air conditioning, direct telephone line, Internet
access, a mini bar and a safe deposit. With Villa Vilina Lopud
has got the so much needed place for the most demanding clients.
Actually, not for those with just ordinary wishes - the home-made
brandy using 50-year old roses is not ordinary, either. The
wish is uttered, registered and fulfilled. Even the paintings
in all the venues are beautiful and totally original. Should
one wonder why, the hosts will explain that their younger daughter
is an academic painter.
The history of the family and of the
hotel offered again to one's pleasure and relaxation, is long
and quite interesting.
The
Vilina Family settled on Lopud in 1792 after having purchased
the estate of the Sorgo family of Dubrovnik patricians. By World
War I the family worked the land and made a name as the producer
of high quality wine from the then reserved sandy vineyard.
With the first burgeons of tourism on Lopud in early twenties
of the last century, the family took to tourism using all the
benefits from the fertile estate known as Vilinovo. St.John's
Bread, figs, grapes, tangerines and olives from the garden are
some of the blessings adorning the table of our guests. So,
come over! Stay with the history, toast with a cup of the rose
brandy and rekindle your own memories as well!
The old coat of arms of the family will
meet you at the door.
Welcome!
